There are six Workshop Sessions, two on Friday Afternoon, July 8 and four on Saturday, July 9.  And each session has six workshops in rooms that will accommodate everyone that selected the workshops in the survey.  This means there is plenty of room for everyone and there is no need for additional sign ups.  Just go to the workshops you selected.  And if you missed the survey or if you have changed your mind and wish to attend a different workshop, we have made sure that each room has additional seats.  Enjoy.

LOOKING YOUR BEST FOR TV, STAGE OR THE CAMERA  Ron Wolek will take questions, give tips about Santa Grooming and will also be doing makeup demonstrations on volunteers Expect a candid, informative and fun conversation. Ron is a 3rd generation wig and makeup artist. Recently the film “Doggone Christmas” starring Ed Asner as Santa Claus.

GROWING A SANTA GROUP/DEVELOPING A SANTA CHAPTER Moderator Tom Carmody – A Place to Belong is a round table discussion on the benefits of bringing the Christmas community together in regional and local groups. The discussion will feature ways in which local groups can be structured and the benefits to the Santas.

SOUND ADVICE FOR ALL SANTAS Santa Noel Leon Mc-Bryde “Can you hear me now?” We will discuss small portablesound systems. We will discover their many uses; for example, they help us to sound and be more professional.  We will look at the use of a sound system for music, excitement, suspense, parades, and more.

SANTA AND SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN John Scheuch.  Have you ever had a child ask the difficult emotional questions. Learn specific tips visiting children with various health, emotional, and grief situations. Takeaways will include information to get prior to a visit, create proper settings, & appropriate responses to hard questions. Handouts provided.

MRS CLAUS 101 Trish Parris.  This class gives a BROAD overview for the new or soon to be Mrs. Claus. I will focus on presenting options to consider and Q & A. I have put together some basic info that I wished I’d had when starting out. This class is gladly open to all…the more we learn from each other, the better we can be and the more authenticity we bring to the role.

OUR FIRST YEAR AS SANTA Russ and Amy Melton .  Listen to a young Santa and Mrs. Claus share both the positive and negative reactions to “being Santa” along with how they keep the “magic” alive for their two young children with focus on in-season time management and the secrets of their biggest Santa event: Cookies with Kris.

SANTA MAGIC Lee Johnson.  Come learn how this Santa uses magic to bring Christmas to all he meets. Learn when, where and what kind of magic is used in different settings. Several simple tricks will be demonstrated and for sale. Tricks you can make yourself, some I invented or modified, some are off the magic store shelf re-purposed. I will hand out notes. Individual teaching is also available.

We will look at aspects of faith, love, and holiness and how it can be expressed through being Santa for others.

HOW TO DEAL WITH A MALE PEACOCK (Santa)  Moderator Ginny Scott.  This is a LADIES only discussion group. Every December our daily lives change How do we “deal with it?” Let’s join together and talk about it. Perhaps another person can come up with an idea with which we can help each other cope. This is your chance to totally vent with ladies only
who know exactly how you are feeling.

SANTA VISITS WITH ALZHEIMERS & DEMENTIA Tom & Shonnie Carroll.  Seniors with memory loss and cognitive decline love a visit from Santa. There are many “best practices” and effective strategies and techniques for visiting assisted living facilities and Memory Care communities, which we will share with you.

CHRISTMAS BALLOONS Spangle Clown.  This will be a hands-on workshop. If you have balloons and a pump bring them. If you do not, they will be provided for the class. We will learn a few simple Christmas designs and we will also work a couple crowd favorites. This class will be good for both the beginner and the more experienced. Santa Spangle is also a full time balloon artist with many awards in the world of balloons.

BASIC ASL Kevin Lee Scott.  I will be teaching basic ASL, American Sign Language. I will teach you how to communicate with a deaf child. I will be sending home papers for everyone to practice at home.  I was born deaf but became fluent in ASL at the age of 17.
I will be teaching the most common signs.

SANTA & MRS CLAUS HEATLHY CHILDREN Linda Planty.  1 in 3 of our nation’s children are either overweight or obese. This workshop will present an overview of our nation’s childhood obesity epidemic. You’ll be introduced to the IBRBS Healthy Children Initiative and we’ll discuss how Santa & Mrs. Claus can influence healthy choices and help
bring an end to this crisis.

SANTA’S SILENT PARTNER Theresa “Pinky’ Garrett.  Pinky will show you ways to enhance your Santa Bookings.  Learn different venues where you can use Santa more than once a year. Non-speaking puppetry in a nut shell Adults will love it just as much as the children and it Is even easier to learn.

SANTA ETHICS 101 John D. Williams..Portraying the character of Santa or Mrs. Claus in a professional and ethical manner is essential. Workshop attendees will become knowledgeable of strong “Santa Ethics” ranging from rules of behavior to the do’s and don’ts of using the internet. Emphasis will be placed on 7 components of strong work ethics for Santa and their Mrs. Claus.
